IL is supposed to start using speed cameras this summer in construction zones.

I love the fact that in my state, tickets based solely upon a photo are illegal, and having plates from CT, MA or NY is more serious an offense than 90 on the 'pike.

Don't tell me you slow down at EVERY single intersection........

I rarely have to jab the gas or mash the woah pedal. I don't drive fast at all (in fact, I accelerate slower than everyone), and I watch the pedestrian signals and incorporate a whole bunch of other factors like prevailing road conditions, vehicle speed, elevation, signal timing, etc...to prevent such "yellow-light" incidents. However sometimes you are just caught off guard. I would never intentionally run a light. But if there's a camera and/or cop car around, I'm more likely to step on the brakes than try and get by.

FYI: I have never gotten a moving violation or red light ticket.

I have never understood why we had to tell people not to run red lights. You would think killing someone in an intersection is voice enough. Now, speeding cameras are BULLSHIT.

MoCo thinks they're a way to make the county more pedestrian friendly. Just like the useless overpasses and bridges they spend millions of tax dollars on.

Truth is, in our part of MoCo where the speed cameras are, no one walks. Everyone drives. So the speed cameras just slow traffic down, and don't make it safer for the non-existent pedestrians. It's clearly a revenue-maker.

I'd like to know how something like a speed camera doesn't require some type of vote.

Sure it does. It requires votes from the County Council. And we know they surely represent the true opinions of the population............

Maryland should focus on the insane murder rate in Baltimore and other counties within the state, instead of a useless public safety annoyance like a speeding camera IMO. How much money is blown on purchasing the equipment, renting the space to store the "photos" on disk, the network, the installation, maintenance and support.
