Looking for tractor

Need to get a tractor for my lawn. something around 46-50" cutting deck.
Sears recommends their craftsman stuff.
home depot says that TORO is much better.
What do you guys suggest?

Consumer Reports has a lawn mower fetish...all they do (it seems) is review lawn mowers and tractors every month. They usually say Deeres are best, followed by maybe club cadet, toro. I think they are all the same, so don't ask me!

my .02 on Consumer Reports is that they suck. I never put any faith in their reviews. It's just a coincidence that we both like JD btw.

It all depends what you are going to do with it.
  • Just cut grass go with a low cost Deer
  • Use it as a tractor to tow and plow need you need a higher end machine in the $4,000 price range
  • If you have a yard with lots of turns and obstructions go with a zero clearance machine.
  • I would see what your local dealer has and try not to buy it at Home or Loews

Sear is fine for cutting grass. If you plan to tow or other make sure you get it with a Kohler engine. I had a sears garden tractor with a kohler engine and it had the best power to price. I ran great. I have a John Deere commercial Z-trak mower now. Nothing runs like a Deere
