Cadillac SRX opins?

TheCEO has a golfbuddy woman friend, recently divorced,
who is looking for an "AWD type car". She rode in our X5, when theBoss was driving a gang of women to an invitational over at Lake Lure, and this woman was impressed w/handling, etc. She is a pretty fair car nut, imo.
She is on the hunt for a used Vette and a AWD/"suv" type ride...

NEway, she is looking hard at a Caddy SRX. I don't know squat about it...anyone have any opins, comments on this car. I don't need "it sucks", etc.

She spends 1/2 the yr at her joint in Vail, (I think she ripped off the ex-hub), and 1/2 the yr here in western NC.

All good, objective commentary is appreciated!

My parents looked at an SRX earlier this year to replace their DTS, but after doing so they decided that their next vehicle is going to be an X5 (seriously) . They can't get over how nice my X5 rides and drives.

I heard they handle pretty well. It also looks much smaller than it really is. Read the reviews by CarandDriver and Edmunds.com . Itd be a good place to find out more without test driving to get a decent idea. My .02.

Look at this

Last Fall, I drove a Caddy SRX. I drove the V8 version.

My impressions:

--> V8 pulls 80% as strong as X5's 4.4 despite more hp
--> Transmission was very smooth but shifted rather slow
--> Ride was way too soft (kind of like a limo)
--> Too much body roll at higher-speed turns
--> Excellent Bose sound system (better than the X5's audiophile)
--> Bland interior with questionable Chevy-like plastics
--> Feels narrower than X5 inside
--> Has visibly more rear legroom than X5
--> Steering was over-boosted
--> Exhaust was muffled
--> Has all the standard features that the X5 has

I personally would still easily pick an X5 over the SRX. My main reason is that the SRX really rides like a tall DTS sedan with an air suspension. It "floats on waves" kind of, which I think shouldn't be the case with an SUV.

To each his own, of course, but I have not been recommending the SRX to other people. If I must pick an X5-sized American SUV, I'll take a Lincoln Aviator over the Caddy SRX.

We looked at one for my mom.. I like it. It's one of the very, very few GM products I'd buy. I think they look nice and they've got some power. We ended up not getting one for my mom because she ruins cars and we didnt want to get her anything TOO nice.

The srx is a WAGON. No better than a 530xi touring.

I know you meant this as a put-down to the 530xi Touring, but that car is actually a fine piece of engineering.

255hp 3.0L I6, xDrive, more cargo than an X5...0-60MPH in 7.3 or 6.8 (stick) and fuel economy of around 20 city and 30 highway.

That embarasses even the X5 4.4i in most ways...

If one were to compare the 530xiT to an X5 4.4i, one can only argue in terms of styling. Because in terms of functionality, space, performance and efficiency, the 530xiT is as good or better in every sense.

When they were named MotorTrend SUV of the Year I test drove it with my wife... and couldn't figure out why. Now this is coming from two wagon owners who were looking to get another wagon at the time.

- The ride was very Cadillac. Lacking any real feeling of the steering wheel being connected to the tires and soft.
- The interior seemed plastic and inexpensive for a luxury car.
- The center console is huge and gives you the feeling of driving in a Vette.
- Excellent acceleration though

For my money, if you are in the market for a reliable, feminine, classy and fast wagon (small SUV), get a S4...

or a Lexus...
