Don't buy BMW with an auto!!

According to consumer affairs, any BMW with an automatic transmission is the 3rd worst car you can buy pre-owned .

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news0...used_cars.html

"Buy a second-hand BMW with automatic transmission at your own risk."

I like all the factual, scientific empirical data and the exhaustive list of all the BMW models affected, years affected, etc. Apparently, they don't like Toyota's reliability either

I resent that! And so do all the X5 4.4i, 4.6is, 4.8is, 3.0si, and most 3.0i owners!

Seriously, manual is the preferred way to go in a BMW.

Although I agree the transmission isn't say lexus smooth, I don't think the abruptness of it makes for a less reliable vehicle. This article's complete lack of due diligence is just what irks me FWIW.

I want to know why vehicles like the pontiac grand am, chrysler sebring, oldsmobile anything, jeep liberty, range rover, touareg, etc etc. To generalize a manufacturer in it's entirety like BMW is just an unjustified bias.

Can anyone say what percentage of BMW's come to the U.S. with auto slushboxes? Isn't it like 90%?

We also don't know how the cars were driven or maintained. BMW recommends that most fluids not be changed until 100,000 miles but who in their right mind would listen to such advice. I have about 45,000 on the clock and recently had the transfer fluid, trans fluid as well as front and rear diff. fluids replaced with synth. Although there's no guarantee, good maintenance can go a long way.
