Very interesting. The only thing that seems strange about the story is that Hamas arrested a number of Army of Islam leaders 2 days before the reporter was released. If the British government was willing to give the Army of Islam what they were asking for in order to release the hostage, then why did Hamas need to get involved? Or maybe Hamas worked as the negotiator and convinced the Army of Islam to give in a little with regard to that 6-months window, rather than immediate release.
Also, it would appear from what I have read, that the British government was simply holding this guy and never let him have his day in court. Sounds like they should have extradited him to Jordan quite some time ago and let the Jordanians put him in prison for life, as he was convicted of terror crimes over there. Without having convicted him of a crime themsleves, he was technically just as much "kidnapped" as was the BBC reporter. As Colon Powell said a couple weeks ago, we need to do things right and legal with regard to these terrorists, or else we no longer have the moral high ground. They need to be convicted of crimes fair and square so that there is no question of their guilt. And if they are not guilty of any crimes except for thought crimes, then they need to be released back to their old countries and let them deal with them.
