Iphone- deals, gen2, etc

I want an Iphone. Just a question of timing it. I can't justify spending $600 on a phone when I don't have a non-fulltime-realworld job. When do you guys think they'll start cutting deals on them? I've been off contract with CingularATT for over a year and have seen no reason to sign a new contract. Been perfectly satisfied with my Nokia 6230 until now.

Also, any idea on when gen 2 might get released?

I heard they were coming out with a nano size iphone around the holidays for about half the price. Will probably have less features though.

I would to, but what does 'limited function' mean?

I could easily live with that. The Iphone is a tad on the larger side for my taste, but a Nano version would mean a smaller screen. It's a tradeoff.

Hopefully the feature set remains identical.

I don't think you will see a price reduction on the Iphone, rather, I think you will see Apple, give you more hardware for the same price.
8g will become 20g
4g will become 10g..

But I don't think the prices will change. If the prices do change, maybe it will be $50-$100.
What may happen though, is those of us with 8g, might want to upgrade to the 20g.. And we will sell ours at a cut throat rate.

btw, I know this is sort of hard to explain because the Iphone looks big.
But truth is, it's really small. Probably one of the smallest phones I've ever owned. It's thinner than a RAZR, (much thinner.) and the thing really hides itself in the pocket. You just can't believe how small it actually wears !!
