iPhone question for those that have one...

I was a bit confused talking to an AT&T rep today so I figured to find out the correct answer here:

My question was essentially what the data plan usage really is?
They say it's unlimited data usage.
She said she THINKS it means I can go on the internet whenever I want.
So when I asked if the data plan means I'm hooked to the EDGE and she said she would transfer me to Apple.

I was on hold for 6 mins and than I hung up.

Unlim data usage should mean you can spend as much time on the internet as you want. That's what it means for my vz motorolla q

Edge is much slower than WiFi spots. Always use WiFi when you can.

It's faster than that. AT&T just upgraded the edge network shortly before the iPhone was released. 70 kbps is what you get if you have 1-2 bars of reception. With a nice strong signal, I tend to get around 175-200 kbps.

Yes iPhone data plan is unlimited EDGE data. So whether you download 1mb or use 1gb of data... you still pay $20 a month.

However, with EDGE being as slow as it is... you're probably going to wind up using Wifi anyway...

Which if you think about it does work into AT&T's favor...

Is 175-200 kbps adequte or not for normal use?

I figured my bill to be about $20 more a month than what I'm already paying. I just hear about how slow EDGE is.

For light browsing & email yes its adequate. Youtube is a no go, even when the iPhone does reduced video quality for youtube when you use EDGE.

You just get spoiled when you use the iPhone over Wifi...
