Pigeons serve no purpose in life. They're like flies and mosquitoes.........no place for them at all.

We have a covey of mourning doves here in our trees, that pig out on our feeders. We watch them do the pecking order, males chasing the females; and, we see them pork a couple times a season. We do see "younger" looking doves, but they are simply 7/8ths version of the adults, a little sleeker, not quite as colorful, and are last in line in the pecking order to the dominant males...but never any little doves. I'm with TQ2K's wonderment in regards to all the pesky, "pesty" species "not being necessary". Otoh, controlling pigeons in metro areas is a full time job. Import a few hawks or peregrine falcons to the bridges and they will put a hurt on the pigeon pop. |
