A great movie I just watched

Here's a great HBO Films movie info link showing an RDD (Radiological Dispersion Device) scenario aka "dirty bomb". Very realistic other than minor specific radiological inaccuracies.

Bombs with depleted uranium shells have a similar effect. It just takes a few years before all the people exposed to the radiation get cancer and die. This RDD just speeds up the process.

No, you are wrong. I don't know what a "Bomb with a depleted uranium shell" is by the way. That makes no sense. The depleted uranium you are apparently referring to as a hazard comes mainly from 155mm tank penetrators and 30 mm cannon aircraft penetrators. After an Iraqi tank is hit by a D.U. round for example, there is a residual black colored dust on that vehicle from the resulting fire etc. This is a very fine dust that is possibly suspended in the air and inhaled. Also, a fire resulting from a DU hit may also contain DU hazards drifting downwind. There also may be remnants of DU penetrators on the ground after an attack. The primary hazard from the above examples is a heavy metal toxicity not a radioactive hazard. Only once it enters the body through inhalation, ingestion, or into open wounds/cuts is it then a medical issue. There's no gamma radiation hazard as that from an RDD.

I am aware of this. The reality is that this dust gets into everything including the water supply and food sources. Cancer rates in countries that have had DU exposure are the highest in the world, Iraq being #1.

This is also a good bet as to what caused Gulf War Syndrome in the vets who returned home after the war. Unfortunately, I'm sure we're going to see the same thing with vets from the current war after another few years.

So yes, the exposure is different. But the end results are quite similar.
