Cool New iPods to be announced September 5th

From AppleInsider.com: "The move will culminate a multi-year effort on the part of the Cupertino-based electronics giant to form a new platform of digital devices around the common core of its legendary operating system software and expertise in industrial design.

Three of Apple's four business segments -- the Mac, iPhone and Apple TV -- already rely on derivatives of the Mac OS. In surgically replacing the iPod's Pixo-influenced OS with a modern-day variant of its homebred software, the company will have effectively scaled the Mac OS across its entire product matrix."

Apple confirms "Special Event" on September 5th
By AppleInsider Staff
Published: 07:00 PM EST
Apple Inc. will use a special media event on September 5th to introduce a new array of digital media offerings, according to digital invitations issued to analysts and members of the media Tuesday afternoon.

The invites, which arrived by e-mail, depict an enlarged CoverFlow interface with the caption, "The beat goes on."

The event is scheduled to take place at the Moscone West in San Francisco on September 5 at 10:00 a.m.

Apple is widely expected to use the gathering to usher in a new breed of Mac OS X-based iPods. Additional announcements relating to the company's iTunes software and digital media download service are also expected.

yep, I heard that last week, I hope it is true. I want to get a 2GB Nano for a "beater", (I have a 5.5G iPod video, but it's just too big to bring everywhere), so I will wait until then to maybe get it. I have a birthday coming up soon (you will be given notice L, not to worry), so .....

No 2GB Nano, but you can get the 4GB for $149:

Apple launches third-gen iPod nano [U]
At its special event in San Francisco, Apple today launched its third generation in as many years of the iPod nano. True to an early photo leak, the new model features a larger, 2-inch screen with a 320x240 resolution that supports video playback as well as the high-quality games that first shipped with the fifth-generation iPod; Sudoku, Vortex, and one other game are included out of the box, according to Apple. The design completely eliminates the use of plastic end caps while becoming even thinner than before at 0.25 inches. Significantly, the new model is also one of the first homes of Apple's new, click wheel-driven iPod interface. The higher 204 dots-per-inch resolution -- the most ever for an Apple-made device -- includes a new split-screen interface that shows album art and other content on one side while scrolling through menus on another. Cover Flow is now a part of the design and lets users brows music and videos by album covers or video previews, viewing track details after selecting the album.

Apple promises 24 hours of continuous music and 5 hours of video on the new models, which ship in black, cranberry, light blue, light green, silver, and silver colors alongside a new Product(RED) model. Models should be available beginning today from the online Apple Store in 4GB for $149 and 8GB for $249.

The comparison was Apple produces 9,000,000,000 versions of the iPod...as Ford produces the same versions of the Mustang...
