Talking Pay Attention Teenagers

California and at least 11 other states are considering bills banning teens from using electronic equipment while driving, according to the American Automobile Association. At least 15 states and the District of Columbia have passed bans.

Supporters say teen-specific regulations — which generally amend existing laws that apply to everyone, or add provisions to graduated licensing laws for young motorists — reduce driver distraction and save lives. Opponents say they're another example of government meddling into citizens' private behavior — and teaching students proper driving skills is a parent's duty, not the state's.

California's bill could land on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's desk this week. Schwarzenegger, whose daughter turned 16 and began driving last year, hasn't indicated whether he'd sign it.

Please define "electronic equipment". I mean, does the car itself count as electronic equipment, since it has a battery? How about automatic climate control? iDrive?

And yes, this is another example of how our "health and safety" government feels its the gov't responsibility to take care of the nation, not parents.

Also define, teenager. Ah, 18 and 19 are teenagers...and they are also adults. Not to mention there is a huge difference between someone who got their license at 16 and someone who got it at 20, what, the 20 year old is some how a better driver because of age..not experience?

Let's talk about the waste of time here with dumb drivers trying to see how old another driver is. Just leave it at "a cop can pull you over for using a cell, etc. and give you a $50 stupidity ticket" if the cops finds that you have less 3 years driving experience (according to your license) then you are given an additional $500 fine. That should do it

Sorry..but dumb law. Just outlaw the use of cell/blackberrys/etc in cars and call it a day.

thats a pretty retarded law... it should be passed to all drivers, not teens... don't want to get political, but i can guess which side that idea came from...

California is the most over-governed state in the US.

It is also a trend-setting progressive policy state which has and continues to lead by example regarding energy, trade, health, ect. True there have been some interesting concepts that don't seem to have teeth and we Californians laugh our heads off at some of the twisted conclusions coming from legislators.

They also lead the way in letting people be non-accountable and placing all blame on corporations.

Beautiful examples of Cali:
- Lohan, Hilton, Spears

Not to mention the wonder that was the 350cui Corvette with less then 200hp (go 70's)

If you believe - Lohan, Hilton, Spears are examples of California you are seriously misguided. People being non-accountable and placing all blame on corporations is a worldwide problem that has nothing to do with any specific state. To cite an example just think about the federal government and their non-accountable politicians.

Half of my family lives in Cali, that place is WAY to liberal IMO. But that is why I live on the other side of the country.
