OT -- Anyone Know Anything About Rensselaer?

Won't bother you with the details, but I am looking for an online Masters degree in Technical Writing, Information Architecture, or a related field (Seton Hall, for example, has one in Strategic Communications).

Anyway, in my search I came across an online Masters program in Technical Communications and Human Computer Interaction (HCI) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). I've done some research, and I've found out that RPI is an established engineering school with a fairly good reputation. However, when I ask friends and colleagues about RPI, not many have heard of it. So, have any of you heard of it? If so, what have you heard, or what do you know about RPI?

Here's the link to that program, by the way.

I appreciate any comments you may have.

thanks!

Juan

I know first hand that it is hard to select the right school. It takes a lot of investigation as you know. Sorry I can't provide you any input on RPI, don't know much about that one. I just finished my MSIT from Capella. Here is a look at their Technology programs: http://www.capella.edu/schools_progr...ogy_index.aspx

Best of luck in finding the right school and program for you.

Thanks, man... and yes, it is VERY hard deciding on the right program and the right school... It's exhausting work! lol

I know it will all be worth it at the end, though. Thanks for the link, ncx.

RPI is one of THE best engineering schools in the country, unfortunately it's in Troy NY which was and maybe still is a very depressed area.

I'm amazed that you're not getting any extremely positive feedback from friends about RPI, very surprised.

AND, they've got a great Div 1 men's hockey team

Seriously, RPI is a top notch school.

Very cool! Now, I just hope that their Tech. Communications program is as good as their Engineering program.

This is why I wanted to post that question here, and hear comments from you guys. My informal research around here has not returned many results, but that may be related to geography?

I am gonna have to contact them, and get some mor information.

Juan,

Chalk me up to one of those that have never heard of RPI.

From the feedback I've read above, though, it sounds like a very good institution. Good luck with your research and decision.

Jeff

RPI is one of the premier engineering school in the US. I have a lot of friends who got their undergraduate degrees there and were happy they went there. They would have preferred that the school was somewhere else but Troy though...

Meh - that girly-man team? (OK I'm biased -- I went to Clarkson - one of their Div 1 rivals, for those that don't know )

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. I am starting to feel a little better about applying there. The campus location is not that big of a deal to me because this would be a distance learning degree. I just want to ensure that the Master's degree I get (which will cost me a ton, as all of you know) is from a respected, well-known university.

Again, thanks. If anyone has any other thoughts or comments, I would greatly appreciate it.

Jeff, by the way, welcome back. Glad to hear you had a relaxing and "unconnected" weekends. It's nice to have one of those every once in a while.

Juan
