Agreed. When I lived in Japan, I saw the remains of a bad (one-car) accident like this.

The Japanese car in question had been completely sheared in half behind the front seats. Couldn't tell about the occupants, but I think they survived.

I couldn't even tell what make/model car it was, it was so badly mangled.
