Beach Bound.....

...Well, I landed the gig of all gigs last week, so I said later to the witch from mid-city and will be moving a block from the beach, this week. I've gone from 50 tenants to two, myself included. The gig is as a caretaker of an 11 unit property that is being converted into condominiums. The units must remain empty, short of one disabled guy (not me), for the next two and a half years....I have a locked garage, a work room, and a beautiful 1 bedroom apartment that overlooks the Santa Monica Bay. The building sits atop the spot of the original Arcadia Hotel, (google it, an interesting story about a murder there...)... circa 1889, it's a spot that 100 years ago was the hub of all activity in Santa Monica, quite historic. The building must remain empty for a full two years before renovation can commence, and my job is to keep all the miscreants out.......stay away, X5worlders...

Much more scary was a movie where Melanie Griffith & Mathew Modine rented a apartment in their home to Micheal Keaton. enough to make you swear off renting/loaning anything to anybody. Made becoming a hermit look good.

2yrs of idle, non-income producing, while protecting it from all sorts of crazies, AND still have to pay taxes & upkeep!?! What was the reasoning behind THAT law???

....Pacific Heights....excellent film....reasoning is that the owners are removing 11 units from the rental market....they're gonna make a ton more money, when the apartments are turned into million dollar condos....so, Santa Monica says they have to pay.....thank god for those bureaucrats......I'm a beneficiary of their forward thinking....

My Fave Nephew, usually on the edge, departs the city for
BeachBoy/surf's up land...and, may spend sleepless nights
trying to keep the all night zombies, crack heads and wandering
X5 gangs looking for a mini-meet, out of the projects he's overseeing.

Goodbye Apts., hello nouveau riche condos!
Congrats on the new gig, M!

Mick:
" I could turn this place into a penthouse. For instance this room. This room could have been the kitchen. Right size, nice window, sun comes in. I'd have I'd have teal-blue, copper and parchment linoleum squares. I'd have those colours re-echoed in the walls. I'd offset the kitchen units with charcoal-grey worktops. Plenty of room for cupboards for the crockery. We'd have a small wall cupboard, a large wall cupboard, a corner wall cupboard with revolving shelves. You shouldn't be short of cupboards. You could put the dining-room across the landing, see? Yes. Venetian blinds on the window, cork floor, cork tiles. You could have an off-white pile linen rug, a table in... in afromosia teak veneer, sideboard with matte black drawers, armchairs in oatmeal tweed, a beech frame settee with a woven sea-grass seat... (sits up) it wouldn't be a flat it'd be a palace."

Alan Bates as Mick, from the Caretaker. circa '63, written by Harold Pinter.
