Kidnapped

http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/09/...a/27afghan.php
Red Cross workers kidnapped in Afghanistan

Four employees of the International Committee of the Red Cross, who had traveled outside of the capital to help negotiate the release of hostages held by the Taliban, were themselves kidnapped, the authorities said Thursday.

What's with this "kidnapped" crap? Why is it whenever the "bad guys" capture someone, they call them "kidnapped"? On the other hand, our troops "capture" the bad guys. Makes the bad guys sound like child molesters.

And once they are captured, instead of calling them "prisoners" or "POWs", they are "hostages".

LOL..I love the way you quote the word "Bad Guys". The fact that you don't know the difference between the Taliban and Red Cross workers or our troops speaks volumes.

Just a hint Eric...When you take someone against their will and make demands for their release you are kidnapping hostages.

When you take the people into custody who "kidnapped" them they are "prisoners" or POW's.

Look....the British media does the same crap:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle1530527.ece
Iran to hit back at US ‘kidnaps’

IRAN is threatening to retaliate in Europe for what it claims is a daring undercover operation by western intelligence services to kidnap senior officers in its Revolutionary Guard.

Hmm, Red Cross....Fighters....Red Cross....Fighters....seems pretty obvious why the context is chosen.

As I've said before, each country will spin it the way they want....

Why when Native Americans were killed by early US soldiers was it called a battle, but when US soldiers were killed by Native Americans it was a 'slaughter'?

Well then you understand that all media sources (even the ones...God Forbid, outside the US) are just as arrogant. So there really is no point.

Once again, in an attempt to point out bias in others, you have pointed out your own bias.

Quote:
The police chief of Wardak described the disappearance of the four Red Cross workers as a kidnapping.

...

The Taliban and other insurgent groups have abducted or killed foreign civilians in an effort to deter reconstruction and aid projects in Afghanistan and undermine the central government's authority. But the country has also suffered a growing wave of kidnappings and other crime committed by criminal gangs operating independently from the insurgents.
Those are both quotes from your article.

Looks to me like they were kidnapped - you know, taken for ransom?

Stop spinning things they way you want them to be.

It's says red cross worker, not a soldier....Kidnapped IS the appropriate terminology Eric.

When the marines detained several Iranian diplomats (not soldiers) who were in Baghdad at the invitation of the Iraqi government a few months back, the media used the term "captured".

When Hezbollah captured and Israeli soldier last year, they called him "kidnapped". (yes, he was a soldier).

There seems to be no consistancy in the terms, other than the "bad guys" kidnap hostages, while the "good guys" capture prisoners.
