Whatever comes out will be good news. My 2-yr contract expires in a matter of days. My parents will eventually ditch AT&T when their contract expires in a month, and then they'll jump aboard the Verizon ship.

They're reliable and don't drop the calls for no good reason. AT&T can for all the times they've dropped calls between me and my parents.

Actually, not even close. They just have them strategically placed.

The most recent info I was able to find was from August 2005 which shows this:

Nextel: 20,000
Sprint: 25,000
Cingular: 44,000
Verizon: 22,000
T-Mobile: 24,000
Alltel: 8,000

Keep in mind that Verizon uses mostly the 850 Mhz band, so their towers cover more area than Sprint & T-Mobile's 1900 MHz towers. Cingular/AT&T uses about half 850 and half 1900.

Verizon's Juke, Pearl, Venus and Voyager get outed

Posted Sep 29th 2007 2:27PM by Paul Miller
Filed under: Handsets, LG, RIM, Samsung, Verizon Wireless

Apparently due to launch in a couple of weeks, Verizon is prepping a phone blitz of fairly epic proportions. The new Samsung Juke, BlackBerry Pearl, LG Venus and LG Voyager are due for simultaneous arrival on the market, and are sure to turn heads. On the far left is the "Juke," Verizon's name for that U470 we spotted a couple weeks ago, which is supposed to arrive with 2GB of storage, A2DP Bluetooth and a 1.3 megapixel camera. Next up is the "new variety" Pearl rumored since August, with a 2 megapixel camera, A2DP and a 3.5mm audio jack. One to the right is the dual screen "Venus" slider, also known as the LG VX8800. The phone rocks miniSD expansion, A2DP, a 2 megapixel camera and some interesting touchscreen capabilities, including vibration feedback. Finally we have the beast of the bunch on the far right, the LG Voyager, also known as the VX10000. The phone sports a large external touchscreen, along with a lateral-clamshell form factor that opens up into a QWERTY keyboard and another well-sized screen, both screens are QVGA. Verizon is bragging of a full HTML browser, along with the expected microSD expansion, 2 megapixel camera, A2DP and some built-in stereo speakers.

Based on those four, I'm liking the VX8800. However, I'm not big into technology. I'll settle for whatever's on sale and/or online deals as long as its LG or Samsung. I'll get approval on whatever I choose from my friend of mine, who's more knowledgeable about consumer electronics. <--What I don't know or can't do, I outsource to others.

Oh a surprising fact: Charlottesville (where UVa is) is such a small town, it isn't in Verizon's home network! Everyone here that uses VZ is on "Extended network", using Alltel's mediocre network. Can you say......rural?

lol, my friend has that phone, the Samsung on the far left, I have no idea how he got it though, but its running ATT.
Not exactly the most user friendly phone.
The two LGs look cool.

I think the "Voyager" (VX10000) looks good on paper, will have to check it out. I wasn't impressed with the EnV and this phone was rumored to be the successor to the EnV so I hope it is much better. Supposed to be full html browser and I like the size of the qwerty keyboard compared to the blackberry phones.
