A Nightmare With No End in Sight

I've been told by the military guys on this board that I don't know anything about what is going on in Iraq because I haven't been there. Well, this guy has:

'A Nightmare With No End in Sight'

Former Top U.S. Commander Rips Bush Administration's Effort in Iraq

WASHINGTON (Oct. 13) - In a sweeping indictment of the four-year effort in Iraq , the former top American commander called the Bush administration's handling of the war incompetent and warned that the United States was "living a nightmare with no end in sight."

In one of his first major public speeches since leaving the Army in late 2006, retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez blamed the administration for a "catastrophically flawed, unrealistically optimistic war plan" and denounced the current "surge" strategy as a "desperate" move that will not achieve long-term stability.

"After more than fours years of fighting, America continues its desperate struggle in Iraq without any concerted effort to devise a strategy that will achieve victory in that war-torn country or in the greater conflict against extremism," Mr. Sanchez said, at a gathering here of military reporters and editors.

Funny thing is nowhere in his statement does he condemn the decision to go to war with Iraq. His criticism is pretty specific.

"But his main criticism was leveled at the Bush administration, which he said he said has failed to mobilize the entire United States government, other than the military, to contribute meaningfully to reconstructing and stabilizing Iraq".

"Asked after his remarks what strategy he favored, General Sanchez ticked off a series of steps - from promoting reconciliation among Iraq's warring sectarian factions to building effective Iraqi army and police units - that closely paralleled the list of tasks frequently cited by the Bush administration".

You'd be hard pressed to find many on the Right who feel this war is going well. In fact many of us are angry with the limitations placed on the military in order to fight a PC war. Door to door combat is what is getting our troops killed.

What I find crazy is that you actually believe they are fighting a "PC" war. You mean because they haven't committed genocide and killed all 25 million people that live there??

There are geneva convention violations being committed by Americans over there almost every day of the week. If we are lucky, maybe 1% of them become exposed like the Abu Ghraib scandal or the murders commited by Blackwater employees. The other 99% simply are ignored.

I'm sorry, but just because we haven't killed every single civilian in Iraq does not mean we are fighting a politically correct war.

No way to seperate it. Unfortunately, you can't cut the candidates in half. They come whole.

Social Issues are more important to me, so I side more with people I feel will make my rights possible, Republicans are coming a long way in acceptance but they have some time to go, as soon as everyone has equal rights, as they should, I will vote based on finances, this is most likely why I hate Bush so much, we shall see, for now I'm a demo
