Let me just add that IMHO, The averege joe would just like to get someting done as easy as possible. And in that regard OSX may have an edge.

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
And if the average Middle Average Joe is already use to Windows it may be easier to stick with windows.

If the Average Joe is a twenty something generation X or Y they might be better off with a Mac.

I do think that the problems with Vista are being fixed and year or so will be a good operating system, though it seems to demand a lot of resources.

I would call this a balanced view of a real life switcher and he's not a twenty something generation X or Y . http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:...&client=safari

OBTW I find the revelation that the problems with Vista are being fixed and year or so will be a good operating system to be very encouraging.
Makes me want to go out and get Vista today.

Hm....where did you hear this....it is interesting. Since Leopard is probably going to be shipped soon to retailers, so they'll be in stock by the 26th...but I wonder if the computers are still shipping with Tiger? I bet they are. On apple's website they say "Up to date" will get you Leopard for $10 if you bought a computer between Oct 01 and the 26th. .
If I went to my Apple store and they had MBP's with 10.5 I'd buy it today.

EDIT: found this on Apple's site:
"Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard and its 300-plus new features and innovations are coming Oct. 26, 2007.

If you buy a qualifying Mac between October 1, 2007 and December 29, 2007, and it does not include Mac OS X Leopard, you’re eligible to get Leopard after it’s released for just $9.95 plus tax.

How to get Leopard

You are correct. That was incorrect information posted on MacWorld's website early this morning, "From today forward, a copy of Leopard should be included either pre-installed or as a disk in the package. If Leopard isn't included, Apple will ship it out to you for $9.95.". LINK

That's good news. My wife has been waiting for the new OS for her Mac Pro. I've been secretly lusting after some kind of Mac for some time now. Among many excuses, I've been waiting for the new OS. I can't decide what I'd get but I think I'd get a Mac Mini purely for the lower entry fee and it will run alongside my devoted homebuilt PC to which I just added another 1GB of RAM today.

I would be one of those guys who run both platforms. I love my PC despite the many issues Windows comes with but I also admire the design and seemlessness of Macs. For example, I just bought an Apple Airport Express and I'm sure it would be a snap to integrate with a Mac and Airport Extreme. Plus Apple stuff is so pretty.

OK I'll bite. Other than the dictionary meaning "an example or single occurrence of something" what exactly is an instance of OSX?
