Vinyl May Be Final Nail in CD's Coffin
Why? Many reasons, but one of the main reasons is it sounds better. http://www.wired.com/entertainment/m...eningpost_1029

True...I've definitely listened to a few GREAT sounding LP, Tube amplifier setups. Problem is finding records that are in great condition. Even if they end up making a few new presses the selection will never compete with CD and MP3 to make spending the money worthwhile. Have you seen the price of a decent High End phonograph or Tube amplifier?
![]() ![]() ![]() My best sound is playing SACD which are Super Audio Compact Disks. There is enough selection to keep things interesting and the sound is spectacular.

You want records..........Done. As far as high end gear is concerned there are lots of sites that sell this stuff second hand. http://www.audiogon.com/
And that second hand stuff will run rings around most digital gear. Just get back in the loop. I'ts the real deal. Groove Yard Jazz LPs/CDs 5555 Claremont Ave. Oakland, CA 94618 (510) 655-8400 email: [email protected] Hours: Mon.-Sat. 11-6, Sun. 12-5

I still use my Bang And Olufsen turntable once in a while, just for $hits & giggles - sounds good!

My Theta Dreadnought amplifier cost an arm and a leg. If my wife knew I spent 10K on an amplifier I would be sleeping outside with the dogs. |

I am with you guys on the Audiogon thing. I pretty much purchased my whole system on Audiogon. I no longer use a CD player at all. Turntable is the center of my system. I am fortunate that I have been collecting clean vinyl for about 15 years and have amassed about 10K of them over the years. It seems that I am seeing fewer and fewer collectable records at yard sales and such. I guess the word has gotten out that people are paying big bucks for prime vinyl on eBay. I however did get lucky earlier this year. A friend turned me on to an old guy who had a few boxes of records he was looking to sell. Turned out the guy was a jazz/blues DJ in NY/NJ in the mid to late sixties. To make it short I pick up 700 records. 160 original Blue Notes pre 1966. Mostly W 63rd and W 61st addresses. The rest were NY USA and about 20 Lexington avenues. All VG++ to M-As for the rest of the lot? Just more minty Prestige, Riverside, Impulse, Contemporary, Columbia (6 eye and 360 labels), Atlantic blacks as well as purple and brown monos, Cadet and a bunch of original blues on Chess, Checker, Imperial, Bluesway & ABC, King, Duke, Atlantic and Solid State By far the best find of my life. Did I mention that I am into records?
