"Opiate of the masses," indeed.

You've got to stay doped up to tolerate Solicalism.

Nowhere does it say that cocaine is not banned. Did I miss that part?

Making laws is one thing. Enforcing them is another.

Guess they need some sort of government-imposed implant that activates a GPS and calls the cops if it detects cocaine in your system...

Kind of like the limiter on cars to prevent speeding?

Perhaps we should all realize the obvious, which is that the problems associated with cocaine (and all illegal drugs) have very little to do with the drugs themselves and much more to do with the organized crime and gang violence that accompanies them.

A more logical approach would be to legalize and regulate them. You would think we would have learned that lesson after Prohibition, but apparently we have not. Either that, or those profiting from the sale of illegal drugs are making sure they are not legalized.

So the volumes of information on smoking, fatty foods, etc is enough to create volumes of new laws, but the same quantity of information on the dangers of drugs isn't?

This is some of what I'm talking about when I say you're not consistent.

You keep putting words in my mouth. That is not what I said at all....

I told you in the other thread that I am against laws banning any kind of drugs or foods, but I'm in favor of regulation and educating the public. Cocaine should be legal and should be sold in a drug store or some similar place. There should also be a warning label on the package warning of the possible health problems it can cause, there should be PSAs on television and radio warning of the same, and kids should be educated in school about them.

Doing that will eliminate all of the crime and violence associated with illegal drugs. Also, as you may or may not know, most deaths from illegal drug "overdoses" happen not because a person takes to much, but because the product they are taking is impure. It is common to find Cocaine or Heroine that is mixed with other items such as baby powder, or sometimes things that are toxic. The dealers do this to make one pound of cocaine into one and a half or two pounds. Much like the people who died in the 1920s from drinking dirty homemade alcohol, this problem would also be eliminated.

The only reason these drugs are still illegal is because of all the money that is being made from them -- estimated at over $500 billion per year in the United States alone. If they were suddenly made legal, the price would fall. Ever been to Amsterdam? Go there and buy marajuana in a bar, and then compare it to the cost of buying it illegally back home in the United States. Then you will see how much of a premium you pay when it is illegal.

You're telling me that there are scores of people that don't know the dangers?

Hold on, 'cocaine should be sold in drug stores'...wtf? That would be great, huge assumption there that people could control themselves.
