Thumbs up Soon it will be Digital TV for us. What are our choices?

Not sure if were going plasma or LCD flat panels but of greater concern is weather to keep comcast or get Direct TV. We don't have Comcast IP for internet just extended cable right now for the TV. So in many ways i"m a novice regarding the choices.

#1 If i get direct TV will i need DVR's for both upstairs and downstairs.

#2 Same question for Comcast

#3 Is Tivo better than a comcast DVR or Direct TV DVR?

#4 What DVR does Direct TV use?

I just keep hearing about Comcast jerking people around and the cost keeps going up. http://iwantnflnetwork.com/truth.php

So should it be Comcast or Direct TV on the west coast? What are the pros and cons?

If Directv has all of teh channels that you want, go Directv. If they carried MSG HD I would get rid of Cablevision in a heart beat.

Yes you'll need a dvr wherever you want to watch a "taped" show, and no, you can't share the tapes shows amongst the tv's in your house (at least not without some extra wiring/technology etc)

If you go Directv, you can get Verizon DSL for internet, which isn't very good, or you can keep comcrap internet, doesn't matter.

Directv will have a significant number of new HD channels by year end.

whoops, Directv uses their own DVR, not TiVo, it works great, my parents have it, no complaints.

DirecTV didn't like recording my daily soap opera. I'd get one day per week. My only complaint.

QwkAg...we have ComCrap here in the FLA starter shack; yes, I agree with you
that they are usually a PIA to deal with, especially if one is a current/old hat
customer vs. a "new sign up". We have their high speed internet/phone/cable service
here. Their DVR is as good as I have used, and their Vid on Demand is good and getting
better, all the time. As you know, the "packages" are not user/pricing friendly, but neither
is DirectTV and/or DISH, once the come on period is expired.

I have DISH, not Direct, on the mtn., but no HiDef there. I think Direct maybe currently
ahead of DISH, in the sat arm wrestle, but it's a different animal and "pkg" vs. good cable,
in my low tech opin.

You, as a current Comcast user may be able to wrangle some consideration for a decent
intro deal from continuing with CC and adding phone, internet and HD DVRs around your home...
and you may be able to negotiate a longer "intro deal". Regional deals and "local incentives" to
keep an existing CC customer, are there to be had, I am told.

In summary: I have Sat on the Mtn and Comcrap here in the congested flat 'burbs of
SW FL; if I had a choice, I would take Comcast HD, their internet and their phone pkg,
over Sat, and be happy, imo.

Thanks all for your input. Guess i will have to wheel and deal because i wont be getting any phone or internet service from comcast. I just don't need it. In my mind channel lineup is very important. (Porn is out) But here's another question. When you get comcast HD digital do you have to have their DVR or can the plasma or LCD decode the signal with it's tuner? Of course for recording i could then use Tivo?? Or what's the best option?
