I've had no issues with Active Steering on the 3, although I do realize it is a relatively "fragile" part of the vehicle, susceptible to errors and such.
BMW has been dragging its feet with the software problems on the '07-'08 X3 6-speed automatic gearbox as well. Despite apparent serious hesistation, neck-breaking downshifts, and ridiculous gear hunting, some dealers don't know how to fix it because the problem sometimes comes right back after the latest software update.
