New Tires!!!

Well its that time of year again! Time for new tires for their truck. The ones I have on there now suck! They came with it and have no traction! I think that the tires I have decided on are the Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO. As for size I am going with the 285/75RR16. I have no idea what those numbers mean except that they will fit my wheel . Any Comments?

Here's the decoder ring:

285 is the width of the tire in milimeters

75 is the aspect ratio, which is the height of the sidewall section compared to the width of the tire. Since yours is 75 then the tire section is 75% as tall as it is wide. Short sidewalls tend to provide for better handling whereas taller sidewalls tend to give a smoother ride. For a specific tire width, the smaller this number, the shorter the sidewall.

R means radial tire

16 means it fits a 16" rim

Thanks Ucrew! Tireracks explanation was not the easiest to understand. I did however figure out that the 285s are the right ones for me. Do you think I should get them with the painted lettering or unpainted?

Outline White Letters (OWL) looks good on a truck, especially a dark coloured one!

285/70/16 is pretty big! how heavy will they be fitted to your rims?

I say go for it

You have an X5 with 16" rims? And I thought 17s looked small.

I love the BFG's TKO all terrain's on my F-150. I had stock 265/70 17's. I upped them to 285/70 17's and they look a lot better and the traction is better, especially wet. I stayed on the same rim. My stock tires were goodyear's something, they were horrible in the rain. Almost unsafe, IMO.

O ya... I totally agree. In rain it is very easy to spin the tires.
