Quick watch question - Jacques Lemans

I asked a question a couple months ago about purchasing a new watch for work and for every day wear. I received fantastic responses and decided on an Omega Seamaster. I've been putting aside more money into my MMA saving for the one I want (almost there!), but in the mean time, my mother purchased a Movado for me for Christmas. It's a nice watch, but I think it's a bit too formal for what I'm looking for so I may exchange it.

Here's my question... What kind of reputation does Jacques Lemans have in the watch/jewelry world? I found this Geneva chrono which I think is beautiful and its priced fantastic. I'm just afraid it's not going to be as high quality as the Movado and may not be as well known/respected. If you have any opinions on this brand/watch, please let me know! Thanks again!

I have personally bought a Bulova and love it! The design is very similar to the above pic..

I'd stay away from Geneve or Geneva..I've heard that they are cheaply made and break after a few months..But to each his own..Personally i'd stay with the Movado, and possible get something practical for everyday usage...It sounds like you don't want fancy for everyday use..so just grab a seiko or something for 90 bucks or so..Hold on to the Movado for more dressy occasions or similar times...There's always a time when you need a nice wrist piece!!

I'm not familiar with the brand or the watch above. Generally speaking, that's not a good thing. I spend a lot of time researching watches and even though I'm not a encyclopedia, I'm fairly knowledgeable.

What is the price?

Also, I do like the Omega Seamaster, a lot. But not as much as I like the SPEEDMASTER.. You sure you don't want to save a little more and buy what is universally considered to be one of the most classic watches of all times, The Omega Speedmaster. - The Seamaster while pleasing, just doesn't have the long term persona that the Speedy has in my opinion.

If someone were to ask me, what are the two most well recognized, universally appreciated and all around best sport watches for value and longevity, without hesitation I would answer:
1) The Rolex Submariner
2) The Omega Speedmaster

They can both be dressed up or dressed down. Just a thought.

I agree on all points. The MSRP is $1295 but it's "on sale" for $350 or so. That was one of the main things that worried me a little. If you can get a watch that deeply discounted, surely it won't hold any value in the long term. I hadn't heard of the manufacturer either, but I knew if there was a place where people could give me advice on whether it's a go - it would be here

I also love the Speedmaster, and because I am saving for it, I very well may wait for the Speedmaster. I currently have a $100 Invicta which, although was inexpensive, looks relatively nice for daily wear. It may not be a bad idea to continue wearing what I have, keep the Movada to save for more formal occassions, and just keep saving for the Omega!

Trade in the Movado for $/credit and buy the Speedmaster. IMHO Movado are kind of cheesy/tacky looking. The Speedmaster would be a good daily or formal watch. Keep the invicta for when you are detailing the X

I personally have never heard of Jacques Lemans (sounds like an Formula1 driver) watches. Sure they're probably decent watches but in no way can they be compared to the quality and reputation of Omega. The same goes for the Movado. Like B-line mentioned both the Seamaster and Speedmaster are classics. Get the chonometer if you can.

Movado's are not my cup of tea, but that does not mean they are not nice enough watches. His mom bought him the watch and he should keep it in the drawer until it's time for him and his family to go to dinner.
Then he can wear the Movado to show his mom just how much he appreciates her gift.. Selling it, you will get very little to nothing for it. Better off keeping it.

Although the Movado isn't my first choice of watches, it is significant to me because it's the first time I've received a gift from my mother since I moved out of my parents house over 10 years ago (when I was 14!). It would mean a lot to her if I took her out to dinner and wore it, so I think I'll hold on to it. I'll just keep saving until I can afford the Omega - hopefully I'll actually be comfortable wearing it every day (aka not too worried) after waiting so long for it.

Put the $350 towards the Speedy. If you need something to wear in the mean time, take $125 and buy a cool G-Shock.
