Right now Sony is introducing a new technology called SXRD (Silicon Xtal Reflective Display or something). It is supposed to have stunning blacks and brilliant colors. They have a 70" unit out right now with this technology and the sticker price was $12,000. Two new 50" and 60" units are coming out with 4k and 5k MSRPs. This just goes to show you where prices are heading!

JVC and Samsung (as well as Sony) will be introducing sets that will up-convert ALL signals to 1080p. This apparently presents a more 3D picture, with excellent detail and quality. While this won't mean much to smaller HDTVs, bigger TVs (55-70) will be really able to tell the difference.

It's an exciting time....we'll see what happens!
If you want to get a good idea of how the new Sony SXRD sets will look, go to a local Tweeter store and check out the current 70" Sony Qualia. The picture is stunning. The drawbacks include: a reflective screen, large, and heavy.

Despite what many people may believe, plasma is not a dying technology. It does offer superior qualities over other technologies. Check out the following:

Plasma isn't going anywhere, i just read in the WSJ that there are 4 new factories opening in the next 2 quarters in SE Asia that will produce plasma panels.

Thanks, yea, the Qualia is what got me so excited over SXRD. I agree, Plasma was a technology I was seriously considering, unfortuantely the power factor (those babies suck down 400-500 watts in use!) is just too crazy. Looks like the rear projection units use about half of that.

I know it might sound silly not to buy a TV because of power consumption, but 500 watts is a lot of juice!
