My wife is a hooked watcher; I do on occasion. I thought having
the previous season's finale on Wed. and last night's prelim/catch you up and the opener, was a good move for those of us who weren't stalwart "watchers". Good show, different and wtf else is there "on", with the writers strike?  Speaking of the "writers", hasn't the"biz" sorta figured out that even for crap shows, it still takes some talent and work to write TV/Movie screen plays? I woulda thought they had sold their case to the biz, by now...  If if wasn't for some HD premo channels and HD Discovery, I wouldn't have the damn Sony,NoBaloney on... NEway, well done for TV, imo. BR,mD

watched it last night...I was a bit disappointed that the season premiere was only 1 hour long, as it felt incomplete and didn't really expand on what we already knew from the season 3 finale. But I guess with the writers strike, they have to extend out the original 2 hour season premiere in hopes that the strike will be resolved by the time they show the rest of the episodes. Don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen the first episode yet, so you might want to stop reading this now............................... at least we now know how many people made it back, but that raises the question on which Losties came back? Can't wait for next week!

Just watched it. Pretty decent setup for the season. We know there are six survivors now. How much do you want to bet it's the same six that the "others" told Walt's father to round up to bring to them near the end of the first season... I have to find that episode and see who was in that "rescue team."
Btw, I still think it was Ben who was in the casket in the last episode of the last season. He was "neither friend or family" to Jack when he went to the viewing and there was no one else there. That must mean whoever died had no one at all off the island... Dun dun dunnnnnn. The season continues....

I thought the episode was great. I have watched all episodes, DVDs, etc, and it really solidified some of my thoughs. Its tough to get into unless you know all the background. So many little details that get you sucked in, just like owning a BMW, that if you don't have that background, its not as enjoyable to watch. I would highly recommend watching DVD episodes from prior Seasons back to back to get caught up. Netflix is perfect for that.
The person in the casket is most likely Michael as if you pause the HD recording of the obituary Jack is reading on the plane it shows New York. Also in the episode before this season opener they gave away some clues and said it was a man from NewYork. Only one that fits this is Michael. Plus Michael betrayed everyone to get off the island,so no friends or family. Also they gave clues out on the location of the island. In the new episode there were Ho Hos snacks, and Jack and Hurley played to HO in H-O-R-S-E. Ho HO Ho = North Pole. Also if you pause the screen when Jack is out of it in the future, there is a scene of maps that if you pause show him looking north of Norway. Pretty much everyone surmissed that they were at the South pole, because of magnetism and flight path but hinting at the North Pole, suggest the duality of life, bipolar,etc, which ties perfectly into the characters.
