We (US spec owners in the UK) have a really hard time because the "Euro" plates are rectangular and look better.. Unfortunately, we "stick out" because we have to configure the plates to be "square" to fit US Spec cars..Not to mention they are boring as hell!!
And if you want a personalized one, forget it. My "old" E46 BTW...

That's 1911. Euro-like 1912. 1921 - they started embossing them now. 1933 - yellow as peeeee. 1937 - red like a diplomat's face after they are called back. 1966 - starting to use today's colors. Penn-like plate. Today you get them with any logo you want on the left, or in the center. Ones with logo come with 6 characters and standard ones with 7 (4 letters and 3 numbers).
