Glock is definitely a well-made pistol. I simply don't like them. Don't shoot them as well as some others, although I could obviously overcome that with enough practice. You could also consider the Springfield XD-45. I love me some XD's. Also polymer frame, striker-fired. The grip angle is same as a 1911, so feels better to a lot of folks than the Glock.
Latest data says that 9 mm, .40 and .45 all have similar "stopping power". Truth is, all handgun rounds are poor man-stoppers, and shot placement is more important than 1-2 mm difference in hole size. A 9 mm hole in the melon makes you just as dead as an 11 mm hole. And, the 9 mm ammo is much cheaper!

Don't get a Glock. I do understand the appeal, they are inexpensive, but they also feel like a piece of junk. I also am not a fan of single action..

I have a H&K USP Compact .40 - It's an awesome piece. (also comes in a .45 and 9mm).. Has the stopping power of a .45 in a size closer to a 9mm. It's like the Porsche 911 of handguns.. It's more expensive but worth the extra bread.

I like your Mossberg, I'm gonna get me one of those, though I've always been told to be careful of the pistol grip as the recoil can really screw up your wrist if you ever have to fire it. I've been shooting trap and skeet since I was a kid and have a bunch of Pigeon (clay) 12g's...

We'll see but I have used the 21 and saw no issues with it. Not a fan of short barrel compacts as I would not be carrying day to day. From what I've seen and read, you either like Glocks or you hate them. No either way

I have a bro who carries a 19, has the 21 but his daily is a HKP2000. He also carries MP5, etc as part of his daily routine. His guns are the ones I've worked with, I had no issues with the Glock aside from his carry 9mm which grip was nearly too small for my hand. I saw a few 1911 styles I liked (Colt Gold Cup Trophy for instance).

The recoil on my Moss is considerably less than one would think, holding it and looking at it. I taught V to shoot it, first with "lady loads" and then up through the triple ought buck I keep in it. If one tucks it on hip, it is cake, though it is easily fired just holding it like a full stocked rifle/shot gun but with right hand holding it well in front of face.

Like any gun, just squeeze and Boom!

We do a once per year drill, back on the mtn, where V&I have to close our eyes, (seperately), pick up gun, safety off, rack it to chamber a shell and fire...good practice for in a dark bedroom if the fookin Boogie Man ever shows up.

Moss has a few variations of that out now, but we got ours way back in '87 and it was quite inexpensive then. A good, sturdy not exotic, piece and like all my pieces, I keep it clean and hummin'... Go to a range and rap a few; you will find its kick is reasonable and a great home DeeFense piece, imo. It would be hard to miss with it.

Sounds like someone needs a weapon mounted lighting system. Like this one. I always keep a variety of good flashlights around and have a nice M3X light mounted on something that goes bang. As you know, you can't hit what you can't see.

For an expensive but very effective mod to reduce felt recoil on a shotgun, this mod comes highly recommended. A friend has his Remington 870 there getting it done so a test fire will be forthcoming for me.

I considered getting the laser sight thing or mounting a small flash light,
but it's one more gizmo to avoid grabbing incorrectly, if I ever needed to
pull MrMoss out from under the bed.

Not being really nervous about the bad guys coming in, I just let it rest,
