M3 coupe with $30k markup
BMW dealer Century West in California is the culprit, proudly showcasing the extortionate adjustment right on the window sticker. That sounds like a good place to do it, because if trendy California suburbanites or Hollywood stars won’t pay such a premium, who will? BMW’s newest M certainly drew rave reviews from most, if not all, members of the press who’ve driven it, but is the hotter relatively mainstream coupe worth similar money to much more exclusive, exotic supercars? Only time will tell. The M3 has been on sale in Europe since September, where healthy competition from other European manufacturers helped the prices stay closer to their manufacturer-suggested ones. |

the people who buy them at these prices are on crack cocaine. wonder how long it'd take a dealer to unload a new m3 at that price.

EDIT: or unless they normally don't show off dealer markups like that.

I guess it may be worth it to some wealthy people who have to be the first on the block with the new toys. I sure wouldn't pay that. Even if I could afford it. Complete nonsense.

I live a stones throw from Century West and have never bought a car from them. Nor will I ever buy a car from them.
- They have lost thousands of dollars of my business because if this $30k markup that they also had on the BMW M6 and M5 when they came out. They do stand by their practice that they do sell cars at this price when new models come out. But they will never know what it actually costs the dealership in lost future business. Beverly Hills BMW is no better btw. When I bought my X5 4.8is, Beverly Hills was insisting on a $10k markup above sticker. I bought my car for $500 over INVOICE that same week from Irvine BMW in Orange County. That's almost a $15,000 price difference. And because of it, I have bought two more cars from Irvine and refer them a lot of business. Beverly Hills has lost that business so in the long run, price gouging hurts the dealership in many cases.

I was at VOB last weekend and did not see any Market Adjustment on the window sticker.

That sticker price is for people with more money than brains.

As far as I know, BMW does not limit the production of the M cars. Several years ago I was considering getting a M3 convertible, and every dealer around was able to place a factory order with my exact specs. As long as that is the case, any sort of markup is rediculous. I would simply place my factory order and wait the 2 months.
