PNG, you are exactly "on target" with your comments. Ammo made a quantum leap a few years ago when the FBI put out minimum requirements for performance, regardless of caliber. That is why the best 9mm, .40 and .45 all do very well today. Shot placement is now the most important factor in stopping a bad guy, rather than caliber (assuming you have selected one of the aforementioned top-of-the-line bullets). Another factor that comes into play now is bonding of the jacket to the lead. This leads to less separation, and more penetration of tissue.
