I agree with Lam in a general sense, not in this particular case. I.e. people pierce weird parts of their bodies for attention. And BTW - I said I half agree...

I also admit I'm being shallow and biased - I love a nice set of earrings on a girl, but I hate ALL other piercings - women or men, and especially those in such tender areas such as nipples, genitals, and tongues - gross and completely unattractive...

I don't like body piercings either. I still think what they did was way out of line.

Two things wrong here....

1. The keystone cops or shampoo police went too far

2. Nipple ring chick should have done her feet stomping before the fact not after

Yes - I agree they were way out of line too, but unless this is her first time traveling, she should have known that metal bars going through her nipples would set off the metal detector. I'm not all that surprised that they made her take them off. How else would they have known that she wasn't a suicide boobie-bomber?

I agree, I would have demanded a supervisor.

Yes, I agree that TSA went too far but the reason they do this crap and feel up little old ladies etc that are no threat is because of the liberals at the civil liberties union and their "profiling" charges. The TSA can not appear to favor spending more time on the middle east looking people who are the true threats and must prod & poke all people even if they are the lowest threat. It's bullshit I know. If you are of middle east looking lineage you have to live with the fact that other people that look like you are the ones who are trying to "kill the infidels" and you have to accept that to keep your flight safe too. If it was the blue-eyed, blonde military looking types that were threatening the world I would be glad to go through extra scrutiny to keep my own flight safer. So, in this world with the threat we have you should know that extra off the wall metal crap stuck in your body will draw attention at an airport. If you're gonna walk through METAL detectors at an airport with this crap stuck in you a few flags will raise and if you don't expect that then you unrealistic.

It's my opinion and only my opinion that I also don't agree that a person should be doing this anyway. If God wanted you to have metal in your body he would bring a meteorite sliver to earth and pierce your scrotum and lessen your testosterone. To this day at 45 years old my father has said if I ever come into his house with an earring he will pull it out with a vise-grip ear and all and I wouldn't blame him. We all have the right to do what we want because of those who have sacrificed for our freedom to choose. I believe men should look like men and be masculine but some believe men can wear their earrings etc. To those men who wear earrings and I offend you I'm not sorry any more than when you men wear earrings and offend masculinity in general.
Have a great weekend all! I'll be on the town in Amsterdam tomorrow night before I head for Ukraine.
Good night from Spain!

I guess I need my head examined

This was a no-win situation for TSA.
Metal detector goes off and the young woman says, “I have nipple rings”
Decision time
a. Take her word for it and let her pass (big story on the news about how TSA is not doing their job)
b. Have female TSA agent visually inspect nipple rings (big story on news about how TSA “forces” passengers to expose their breast)
c. Have her remove nipple rings (big story on news about TSA being overzealous)
Why take hidden/hard to remove metal objects through a metal detector in the first place?
While it can be debated, whether airports are more secure now that before 9/11, it seems we only want security as long as it doesn’t inconvenience us in any way.

airport security is a joke, ask a pilot. They aren't worried about smuggled bombs...

It would be much simpler to get a RPG, fire from a van and hit a plane on approach or takeoff....not hard...and nearly impossible to stop....

Only a matter of time IMO. The airport security is simply there to keep the sheep feeling safe.

Standard TSA regs state that after the metal detector went off, they should have asked her what set it off, and given her an opportunity to explain or remove. She definitely had the option of a visual inspection by a same-gender TSA officer, but the removal was not required. Some heads will certainly roll for this.
