gresch: How does one know if the PS3 he gets is backwards compatible? I want to get a PS3 for my son, and I was under the impression that all PS3s played PS2 games........I can not start his video game library over, and I know there are not many games on PS3 for a 5 yr old.......

I believe it is the original 20gb/60gb configs were backwards compatible and the newer (current) PS3s are not. Correct me if I am wrong though.

20gb i don't think was... 60 gb was, 40gb was NOT, 80gb used an emulator so all games were NOT but some were. The only one on the market right now is the 40, so as pointed out, you'll be SOL.

This is where I say thank you again to LilBit and Wagner

SONY is re-releasing an 80GB bundle with the new dualshock controller and metal gear solid 4 on June 12th.

http://consoleupdates.com/2008/04/16...ps3-june-2008/

The rumors are that it will have both the sw and hw emulators embedded.

I'm waiting until it comes out to see if it's backwards compatible.... Hopefully it will be, I won't connect 3 consoles to my system. (xbox 360, ps2 and ps3)

FWIW, my 20gig (picked up on the day of release), IS backwards compatible. Been playing several PS2 titles (GT4, GTA series, et al) and even PSone stuff (Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy, et al) since I picked it up.

Can't wait to get my hands on this GT5 Prologue.
