I look at this as a safety issue. What if God forbid you find yourself in an emergency situation where you need to drive a manual transmission vehicle?
I took my DMV driving test driving in a car with a stick at 16. It was great burning rubber and catching second gear in my young and stupid days. |

Y'know... when I was driving cars, my CA mentionned that back in his pre-BMW daze, he had some very inexperienced manual drivers out for test drives.
L- I have an old* beater you can learn on in my garage, only a 5.5 hour jaunt up 95 ![]() *78 years old. If you can drive this, you can drive anything. |

TJunkers - glad that someone like you wants to learn how to drive a manual. It's fun, especially when your up a little hill and your next to someone. You just slowly roll back and watch them slam their brakes...too funny. And driving around a the back country where the roads are not straight...awesome time.
M & L - Norma Jean is a manual. As long as you don't burn my clutch, I'll let you drive her.

![]() Back on topic, I seriously want to learn too. My dad said he'd teach me on the old ford pick up. I'm not sure that's a good thing. I'm going to call a driving school.

sorry to OP for the thread hijack....
Dear uncle MD,
If I show up at the mtn for stick shift lesson, would you still take me around the parking lot? I know I'm no Michelle or Laura, not even close, but would you still take me anyway? Maybe with the good looks between the two of us we can impress the ol' geezers' lady companions . Just a thought.Sincerely, Phong

Funny that this topic came up
My daughter now living in England, has to give up her US license within one
year. The driving test over there is with a stick shift which we never taught her since her Saabs during college were automatic. She has no difficulty driving on the wrong side of the road so she can just concentrate on the stick. My first time in the UK with a rental I had a 5 speed of which I used the first four gears since I couldn"t find fifth. The same trip I held up traffic for 5 minutes after making a wrong turn because I had no idea where reverse was-I pushed the shift and pulled the shift-really impressed my wife. Fred |
