I just like the pic. In a long ago career, I was involved with non-destructive testing/inspection products and became, (for my sales success & own survival), very savvy on the radioactive and nuclear processes, and their effect on "us". Sort of a layman's semi-smartypants on the physics involved... Growing up as a kid in the '50s, hiding under the desk during "drills", and then coming to realize the nearly indescribable power of nuclear fission, gives me some pause...the pic is a reminder, to me. Your mantle piece must be a real conversation starter,  BR,mD

my $.02, extinction is a process of nature. Things change. Maybe we(Man) do "hurry up" the process is some instances. But maybe we also try too much to alter nature's way by preventing the natural "survival of the fittest". There is room for compromise.

OT...
Blue, No I found it on a photo web site I frequent...there was no data or source listed, and the guy that put it up had copped it from somewhere...my guess is a nuclear test in the Bikini Atoll. BR,mD
