The video showed cars zooming past as bystanders stared at Torres from the sidewalk, nobody stepped forward to help. Not one person on the busy sidewalk came to the aid of the poor man who laid bleeding on the street. Unbelievable. Makes me very angry at our society who would stand there and not render aid not even direct traffic around the poor guy laying in the street so he would not be struck again. A little more than a year ago I was following a man driving in front me on a very curvy rural highway. He fell asleep and slammed into the side of the mountain at about 75+ MPH because he was also going downhill. The accident happened right in front of me and I suspected he was going to crash moments before because he was driving erratically. The car smashed the front end and rolled resting upside down. As I approached the car he was hanging unconscious from the seatbelt and the engine compartment was on fire. I squeezed in the broken passenger window all the time hearing gasoline gluging as it pored out of the rear of the car. No way I could let that man burn and die if I could help him. I could never live with myself. I'll say I was in a zone but definitely afraid for my life. Strange enough this was the second time in my life I was in the right place at the right time. The first is a long story and I should be dead as a result but a young girl is alive and well. Cool thing is the guy still sends me Christmas, birthday and thank you cards. He even invited me and my wife to his birthday party. These pedestrians in this video SUCK! Last edited by MrLabGuy; 06-06-2008 at 09:06 PM.

I wondered if someone was going to post this story today...
I hope the catch the m*****f****ers that were driving the two cars! As far as the pedestrians and other drivers are concerned, I agree they ALL SUCK!! They have NO excuse for ignoring or walking away from the injured guy.

For the record, I would not have moved the guy figuring he had spinal injuries. I would however had checked for a pulse and ordered someone to direct traffic. I would then comfort him if still alive until authorities arrived.

Yup, that's pretty cold. An incident like this should shock peoples' consciences into acting halfway decently towards other people. This video reminds me of the Kitty Genovese case.
But, I think for each incident like this there are many where people do help. Just last weekend while driving to Los Angeles, there was a sudden and major traffic snarl. Turned out a motorcyclist went down. There were numerous people who stopped to help and a big rig seemed to be blocking traffic to protect the downed rider. We got there minutes after it happened. We were glad to see so many people stop to help. (We didn't because there was a good number of people already, all on the line with 911 I'm sure.)

I honestly can't really believe this. It's ridiculous.
It's easy to sit at my computer and say I would've helped the guy, but I think if I saw an 80-year-old flailing in the middle of the street, yeah, I would do something.

Doesn't blow my mind. Our society has been driven, every single time, to rely on someone else to step in. I'm sure these folks watching thought "someone will do something".
