WWII bomb detonated in London.

Wow, you have to give it to German engineering. Construction workers discover a 4' x 2' WWII German 2,200lb bomb. They block the area off and get ready to do demolition on the bomb. The bomb starts TICKING!! Yah, nearly 65 years had passed since it hit the ground and the timing still worked. They had to put magnets next to it to stop the bomb from going off on its own terms.

Amazing.

Looking at the size of that thing, it really caused me to pause and think of the hell that London residents went through back then.
Imagine sitting in your home while 2200 pound bombs are being dropped on your neighborhood.

Well Wagner, technically the bomb did not work as designed 65 years ago or it would have exploded when first dropped.

That said the Germans were at the top of their game when it came to military designs and technology and carried that expertise into the future with todays designs and technology. Just look at the cars they build

Yep, my mother told me those stories of the bombs falling all around them in London. Her bedroom was hit by one; luckily, they were in the basement. I can't imagine what that must have been like.
I know that one of the things that kept her going was the bombing runs that my father was doing over Germany...

Some wonder whether the outcome of WWII would have been different if they had rolled out the MP44 (grandfather of modern "assault rifles") and the Messerschmitt Me 262 (first jet fighter plane) sooner in the war.

Had Hitler actually left his generals in charge of the war, instead of killing them or forcing them to suicide, WWII would have been longer and more complicated.

After the nazis lost the Battle of Britain and started their nightly aerial assaults most Londoners including my parents slept in the underground subway and then moved north to the midlands shortly after..

Btw i believe the germans had already developed and early jet engine at this point but Hitler decided against it.

The Battle of Britain i believe marked the first defeat of Hitler's military forces, with air superiority seen as the key to victory. Nice to see the carburettor-equipped Merlin engines of the RAF outperform the fuel injected Daimler-Benz engines of the Luftwaffe
