Looking to convert some old home movies to MPEG

I have a bunch of old VHS-C tapes from an older Panasonic Palmcorder that I would like to convert to play on my computer.

What might I need to pull this off?

I'm using a HP Pavilion 2 Quad 2.40 Ghz running Windows Vista

My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT

you need a tv capture card. They even have them as usb keys. It shouldn't cost much.

Yup,

You can probably get good prices at newegg.com for video capture cards. Unless you need really great quality or the tv tuner features, a video card with a composite (yellow) input is enough. Also, you will need a card that can capture sound, unless your computer has a sound card.

You also need some good software to go with it, if you are getting into digital movie making. ... Vegas by Sony is good.

Thanks...For now I'd like to just get these older formats on something that will preserve the memories and have some edit function.

Now that Vegas software would be good for my Digital HD Cannon camcorder. I'm guessing it's not cheap software.
