Religion and laws in the US
Example: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,371821,00.html Now for the following questions, with no religious undertone what would that answers be? PS: no religious undertone means you can't say "morals" ![]() ------ Why are laws against prostitution written in the USA? I've never understood that. Two adults are willing to have sex if the one adult pays the other, OK. So why is this illegal? Another, why is Marijuana illegal? What study proves it more dangerous then alcohol or regular tobacco? Heard a great answer for this: because the majority of politicians drink, they don't smoke up...if that were reversed, maybe the laws would be. Abortion, another item government should not even attempt to decide on. Aside from third trimester, or a point at which the baby could survive outside the mother, why is it governments business what choice a person makes?

You don't have to be religious to have a moral standard. The two are not synonomous.

I think many of the laws on prostitution, drugs etc, are there because our the gov. is "for the people by the people." if the majority of americans wanted them to be legal, then the politicians would vote in favor of it. There are a ton of organizations out there who want to legalize 'maryjane', but no or few politicians are willing to pick up that because it would be political suicide.
church should not equal state and I don't think they do, however there is a clear link between what is/not legal due to the moral appetite of americans and who/how the government is ran. The interesting issue I see currently is that of same-sex marriage. this is a hot moral issue for a lot of folks, and politicians are trying to figure out what the people really want since the courts have already ruled. |

So I guess my questions didn't have answers.

That's because the subject cannot honestly be discussed without
including your limitations. Quote:
