Microsoft to stop selling Windows XP on Monday

REDMOND, Wash. - Microsoft Corp. is scheduled to stop selling its Windows XP operating system to retailers and major computer makers Monday, despite protests from a slice of PC users who don't want to be forced into using XP's successor, Vista.

Yeah, already have my retail version of Windows XP Service Pack 2!!

Anyhow, the death of WinXP is a slow one....Microsoft will still support it for the next 5 years or so, Service Pack 3 just came out and.....

With Dell and other PC manufacturer, you can ask the PC manufacturers to "downgrade" from Vista to WinXP....Microsoft will allow PC makers to still install WinXP on brand new PCs.

You just can't buy a retail version of XP after June 30th, 2008.

Anyhow, Snow Leopard comes out for you MacFans next year....

I am always amused by the standard, inevitable responses when MS puts out a new OS. The Apple folks always say how much better the latest Mac is. The old curmudgeon component of MS users grumble that the new OS is horrible, and you can't make them give up their older MS OS. Of course, this is the same group that hated that MS OS when it came out a few years earlier.

Me? I use Vista, and like it.

There's the difference. I use a Mac. And I LOVE it. You are notified of updates to the software- which are provided at no cost whenever they are available.

A huge update means a new editon (Leapord/Tiger etc.) and I've never seen any bugs- and never had a virus attack. Although surely this has happened.
