PS3 80G or dedicated Sony Blue Ray DVD Player
I'm in the market for a BR player, but most of the reviews out there are pointing back to the new PS3 being one of the best BR player out today. I'll be interested to know your thoughts about this. I'm very tempted to get the PS3 as my son always reminds me how misses it eventhough I got him a Wii in place of the old PS3. Any pros & Cons of both systems? Thanks in advance!!!

PS3, but you're going to have to wait awhile to get one, they've been sold out since june12th when it was re-released with Metal Gear Solid 4.

There is supposed to be a graphics chipset upgrade this fall.
Too bad you missed a deal Wal-Mart had a few weeks ago where they were selling the 80GB model with a $100 Wal-Mart/Sam's gift card. My friend went down to our local 24/7 Wally and got one at midnight.

Actually I was just at my local Best buy & they had plenty of the 80G model in stock OR $499.....this is the bundle including Metal Gear Solid 4 game.
Yeah too bad I missed that Wal-Mart deal!

If I was buying a Blu-ray disc player now, I'd definitely consider the PS3 over standalone. Prices have not started dropping a lot on standalone players yet (especially for the good ones) and the PS3 has a very, very good BD player that supports 1080p/24, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Res Audio, and the constant firmware updates keep bringing more upgrades (free). The upscaling is also very good for your older standard DVDs (1080p over hdmi, 1080i over component). Also, the PS3 gets a new high definition movie download service this fall which should be very cool if they price it right. Oh, and of course there is the gaming that speaks for itself, and the media hub services.
Having owned a standalone BD player and PS3, I would buy the PS3 again in a heartbeat. By Christmas time prices will be down a bit on standalone players and 2 years from now you'll be able to get very good, upgradeable BD player for a couple hundred bucks. For now, the PS3 just offers the most bang for the buck, specially when you consider Sony's commitment to BD. Happy shopping. /my 2 cents
