BLUE IS A RIVER Like the heather on the hillside as they drove us from the Highlands Like the iceflow from the Arctic where we landed in Newfoundland There’s a colour to my sorrow, there’s a name for all this sadness Like the ocean in between us, I am blue Blue is a river, blue remembered Blue water running clear Blue like a planet to a spaceman Blue river of my tears So I came here to the city Where the dream burns like a furnace And I dazzled in these dark streets like a diamond in a coal face Then the cold wind from the islands Blew a storm cloud across the new moon Like the gunsmoke above the houses in my home. Blue is a river, blue remembered Blue water running clear Blue like a planet to a spaceman Blue river of my tears Blue river of my tears -- Thomas Dolby Performed here with Natalie MacMaster: http://blog.thomasdolby.com/?p=421 (mD: re-read FQ: humility is endless Last edited by haigha; 07-08-2008 at 08:23 PM. |

P/Haigha,
Thanks for that paste and the link... Natalie MacMaster is one of my fiddle faves; V&I saw her, as a girl/barely young woman at the upptiy NewPaltz, NY art fair several years ago, circa Roots are Showing album. They have very good eclectic talent at that venue, but she blew the crowd away. NEway, vectored off the lyrics, but well done and enjoyable. Helluva interesting thread, if only a few readers. I knew FourQs would give you pause, again...;>) Another topic, but since Newfie was mentioned, I have a great book rec'd: Colony of Unrequited Dreams by Wayne Johnston. Both V&I have read it a couple of times. Having been to NFL only once, on "biz", I found it a very well/differently written fiction on 19th cent. life there, relationships, a strong heroine, etc. http://www.amazon.com/Colony-Unrequi.../dp/0385495439 Back to OMG! Lmao! BR,mD PS: Yes to the Scot connection, though not as Scot as Scottie... my paternal grandmother was born in Edinburg. |
