Huge scratch on loaner ..

I got a e70 loaner from my dealership for a day. When I go to pick up my car, there was this huge scratch on the Driverside Door. I didn't even go anywhere while I had the loaner so I don't know where it came from. Anyways when they checked the loaner I noticed them hunching down on the door and that was the first time I saw the scratch. I seriously didn't know how that happened, but I'll take responsibility. The agent said he'll call me tomorrow to let me know the cost.

So when I get home, I tell my wife that there was a scratch on the drivers door and Immediately she said, That was already there when you brought it home but I didn't say anything because I thought you knew. I drove the loaner home immediately after I dropped of my car for service and as I pulled up the driveway, my wife was already outside throwing out some trash so I'm thinking that the scratch was already there, but wasn't marked off.

The loaner was a Silver E70 and the scratch was barely past the clear coat. I even took some pictures of it and from certain angles, the scratch doesn't even appear in the picture.

Anyways, What do you guys think I should do ?? I had the loner for one night, and didn't go anywhere the whole time I had it.

When i got a loaner 330i a few years ago, there was a VERY light scratch on it.
I used a touch up pen.

The stlr will give you high prices.

I would call your SA and tell him just what you stated here. You really have no motive to lie at this point as you have already told them you'll take responsibility. Hopefully they will just absorb the damage because it was not that serious nor was it the result of obvious negligence or abuse. Also, they have to expect some dings and scratches to their loaners.

I think that if you state your case as you did here and throw in my last couple of points the dealer will realize that the loss of you as a client worse than having to make a minor fix.

I lucked out. The SA called me this morning to let me know that the scratch was already there and input in the computer. The girl was too busy flirting with me to mark down the scratch when we did a walk around.. all good.

The dealers usually don't care because there is a cost built-in to the price of the new car, one time I let my sister drive my loaner and I didn't realize there was a flat (brand-new c230), she drove it 100 miles on the rim (destroying the rim and tire), I told them I'd be more than happy to pay for the damages and they said absolutely not, don't worry about. I was astounded but very thankful
