And you have historical justification to do so... from 1948 to 1964 Philippine Independence Day was July 4th... because the US 'granted' the Philippines Independence on a day to match its own. ONly in 1964 did it change back to June 12.

On the issue of singing 'something else other than the Star-Spangled-Banner thats totally out of line and in bad taste. There should be a law against that... its just like hanging the flag upside down.

One thing I find interesting is that the American National Anthem seems very difficult to sing due to the wide tonal range required. There also seems to be no 'standard way' of singing it as each performer has his/her own take on it... not to mention forgetting the words.

Great info.. However, this country freely welcomed me and I must say, I enjoy every day of it. So in return, and out of great respect, I must abide by its creed, practices and laws. If 'The Star Spangled Banner' is to be sang, then I'll sing it as expected/required. If I feel that I need to give tribute to the old country, I'll do so in my own time, space, etc. keeping in mind not to offend my neighbors. In short, that lady was deifinitely way out of line. She had all the freedom to sing her song, but it was expected and required for her to sing 'The Star Spangled Banner'.

No you weren't.

That was in the Bill of Rights.

OK I am going to sing the French national anthem "la Marseillaise" then on the 4th of July...after all we helped you guys with this, did not we?

Just kidding....I will more than gladly sing the "american anthem" that day and will keep "La Marseillaise" for Bastille day. That is the advantage of feeling belonging to 2 great free countries which share the same values...whatever some may think
