On the issue of singing 'something else other than the Star-Spangled-Banner thats totally out of line and in bad taste. There should be a law against that... its just like hanging the flag upside down. One thing I find interesting is that the American National Anthem seems very difficult to sing due to the wide tonal range required. There also seems to be no 'standard way' of singing it as each performer has his/her own take on it... not to mention forgetting the words. Last edited by Last5oh; 07-03-2008 at 10:37 AM. |

Great info.. However, this country freely welcomed me and I must say, I enjoy every day of it. So in return, and out of great respect, I must abide by its creed, practices and laws. If 'The Star Spangled Banner' is to be sang, then I'll sing it as expected/required. If I feel that I need to give tribute to the old country, I'll do so in my own time, space, etc. keeping in mind not to offend my neighbors. In short, that lady was deifinitely way out of line. She had all the freedom to sing her song, but it was expected and required for her to sing 'The Star Spangled Banner'.

"What she said was that she was very sorry, that she meant no disrespect, that she was trying to make a creative expression of her love for the country," Hickenlooper said. Both unbelievable and inexcusable! If she was asked to sing A SONG, then she has the right to choose what song to sing! But if she was asked to sing THE Star Spangled Banner, which is THE ONLY National Anthem of the USA as far as Im concerned, then there is no excuse to what she did. You can call it "politically incorrect", but Im tired of that crap. We need to start calling a spade a spade! Now let me go outside and drive the X around... |
