Thats because, even if you take Calc in HS, let alone AP Calc, you will have to repeat calc 99% of the time, because colleges want two things: You to learn it THEIR way, and more MONEY, and trust me, NOBODY wants to take calc in the first place, let alone twice AND don't forget the waste of $82 on something that is nothing but an ulcer and resume pillow.


You take algebra in 8th grade here, and its been that way for a while.

I don't know about today, but back when I went to school (early 1990s), the colleges accepted AP credit. I was an engineering major, and I got AP credit for Calc, Chem and Physics and did not have to repeat them in college.

Nope, Nope and Nope. Now, you gotta do it THEIR way (Why I took SUPA instead of AP, transfer credit is more accepted, but still no dice) Especially if they were for your major.

I believe ( and it was proven to me) That you can test out of some of these courses. But you better have your game together if you plan on doing it.

When I was in 7th grade (all of 7 years ago) I was deemed as a "gifted student" and given an algebra book and told good luck. My only help was the two other students and the teacher's book. I then had to take algebra again in high school because i got no credit for the self education in middle school and then i got no credit for my AP courses. I agree with the whole colleges want more money thing.

- We don't want to hold our kids accountable because they'll feel bad.
- We don't want to fail/holdback kids becuase it will hurt their self esteem.
- We don't want to give grades because it will make kids feel bad.

When will you wake up to see that the democrat controlled public school system (through the democratic city councils, school boards, NEA) is in the toilet because there is no competition allowed? Private schools turn out smarter, more successful kids these days because they are highly competitive. Democrats DO NOT allow schools to compete academically because it's just not fair .

I remember I always took the most advanced math level from middle school up until junior year in HS, when I opted for Calc AB instead of BC. I took Algebra in 7th grade, Geometry in 8th. It was a lot of work, but really, it was peer pressure in my surroundings that kept me going.

At my middle school, it was the norm to finish algebra by the end of 8th grade. Most kids would take the subsequent (and dead end) Geometry course over 8th grade summer, catching up to the rest of us in freshman year of high school, with Algebra II.

I AP tested out of my math/science, history, and writing requirements. I transferred my humanities credits from a community college and fulfilled that requirement as well. All in all, 10 AP exams and 36 transfer credits entering UVa last fall. I had no trouble academically in a college environment. I think all that hard work really paid off because college seems like a relative breeze now.

My two youngest sisters went to a spanish emersion school in San Jose, Ca from kindergarden until the eighth grade. They are the only members of my family that are fluent in spanish.

Nontheless, I didn't like it when Obama made that comment either.
