While I agree with many of your sentiments on Prius purchasers (who are environmentalists, not ecomentalists, however misguided they may be), I don't see the connection to Toyota build quality. Seems that you are all slagging US workers, as that will be the only difference when the cars are assembled in the US. Do you feel the same about X5 build quality? Do you feel that it can't possibly be as good as a real German BMW? That is what the logic in the thread is suggesting.

Perhaps BMW has higher quality control standards for its worldwide plants. However, Toyotas built in Japan and US are different. Have you driven a Camry or Avalon lately? The interior panels are misaligned, the materials are thinner than a plastic bag, and screws come loose. I have no doubt that GM builds better quality cars than Toyota. GM cars, while not great, have greatly improved. Toyotas on the other hand, continue a sad downward trend. I'm pretty sure a US-built Prius is not going to be as trouble free as a Japan-built Prius.

Don't forget the increased cost because of US Labor costs, the ecomentalists whining about the "envorinmental impact" of the factory, and the amount of hung-over monday morning mistakes.
Whatever. Let them. Let Toyota's reputation fall (more) I'll put up with this crap in my back yard, as long as they don't start making batteries here. After all, they use that part of Canada as a testing area for the Mars Rover. Thanks for the acid rain.

Its because these "ecomentalist badgewhores" (as you just called them) are making money out of scaring people that the world is going to end! They dont really care about the environment or the polar bears! If they did, they would move out of their mansions and live in a 3 bedroom house and stop using their private jets!

Very true, my 3er is a spectacular car, still is today with nearly 90k miles, but my X5? POS could only describe it.

I was taking this thread more as a joke, apparently some took it as true sentiment

Now truthfully, the build quality will not degrade those that say well I had this BMW and it was fine, but my X5 sucked (sorry BBD)...they just haven't had enough experience. I've had the following in the last 7 years:

323, M3, X5, 545, 645, 350Z, 911, Mustang GT, Expedition, Accord, Maxima

Every single BMW had unacceptable problems BUT the X5. I've covered this before but here is a quickie:

M3 had all of its weatherstripping fall off, 5 and 6 both had their active steering and a ton of electronics go out. So "build quality", seems lacking on the German side as well

Now the Jap jobs, the only issue I ever had was an odd hum coming from the dash of the 350Z at 80+mph. The Mustang, differential had 'some' issue, Expedition door handles were recalled, but SIRIUS went out on us and had to be fixed.
