Hey Ryan;
Sorry to hear about your SS problems. We researched the same issue you are having and at this point that's the way it works with a few exceptions. One being a minor child can receive a deceased parents SS until their 18th birthday. There may be other exceptions but none will allow you to receive someone else's benefits, or 2 checks.

I'll open my mouth on this topic and hopefully I don't offend people on the right or those on the left.
The big issue I see in the States is that our election cycle is too short. We have a new house every two year, president every four, and one third senate every two. There are several problems with the system one of which is that it feels like we are in constant campaigning and very little is actually being done. More importantly is that the country keeps changing character very often, that neither philosophical views (right or left) gets the proper duration in power to make things happen. Taxation is one key issue that both parties argue over: -The left believes that it is the government job to take care of its citizens by providing certain Gov programs. To provide for these programs they need to TAX you. The problem is that they don’t go far enough and never provide the full social services that are being provided in some parts on W. Europe. As a result citizens left with the feeling that they need to take care of themselves because the gov. can't. - The right believes that the individuals need to take care of themselves and the gov. job is to provide the environment for commerce to create the jobs that those who care about their future can take advantage of. Minimum taxation (for defense, roads, etc) allows individuals to save for retirement and corporations to reinvest in their businesses and return more to their share holders (who are individual citizens too). Once you have more money in your pocket you’ll have a better chance of taking care of yourself and your family. The problem is that neither side could exercise their full view of how we should operate. The outcome is a middle class that is educated and smart enough to know that they need to take care of themselves but at the same time overburdened by taxes that they are having difficulties trying to do so. BigR,
At the sentence about your deceased Mother, I smelled what was coming... as I have a year to go before I start collecting that "big dough" from the SS system, I've been reading up on it; not a nightmare, but certainly a labyrinth system and once one croaks, the rules change slightly, to alot, for those still alive and related. I look forward to being one of those "10,000 a day" geezers in a year but the dough, (max monthly bennies for early "take"), is not gonna change or even affect our living std very much. And, I doubt it will remain in its current form for more than the rest of this decade. The Geezers I hang with, (with is 90% of my buds), have all pulled the trigger on the "get it at 62" deal, with the exception of a few that still do big buck consulting, MDs, et al., and have postponed taking it at 62. Hey, your Pop and me are nearly the same age...damn. BR,mD

Damn - by the time I get there. There will be no SS...I am putting all my money under the bed...shhhh don't tell anyone!
Or find me a sugarmamma. Got to love our system...pay up at least 30% of your hard earn blood sweat and tears. Then, the BIG government says NOPE, you can't have your partners money. Eventhough you paid taxes jointly. So, if you became an ex-pat and come back to the system. Will you get the full benefit?

Remember, Social Security was NEVER DESIGNED TO GIVE THE MONEY BACK - when it was created in the 1930's, the gov't said you can have all this money at age 64, except the life expectancy then was 62 - AND IT WORKED!!! - by the 1960's, there was a huge mound of money - So the Democrats said, Let's buy some more votes with public money by allowing SS to become a disability program and let's allow foreigners who've never worked a day become elligible - THAT's how come there it's running out of money
If they wanted a disabilty program, they should have created one that we all pay into - but let's make sure it's a REAL disability - if you can walk, talk, and drive without help from some device, then IMHO you ain't disabled. But that's a discussion that can wait until they actually create a disability program. The idea that someone can move here, not work, and still be eligible for SS, leaves me at a loss for words to describe my anger.
