Girl, 5 Killed by Pit Bull
Katya Todesco died Friday at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, three days after the dog bit her on her face and neck, said Los Angeles County coroner's investigator Ed Winter. Advertisement Katya's mother Katia Todesco said she and her daughter were visiting a friend who was taking care of the pit bull Tuesday. The little girl and the friend's 13-year-old daughter were playing in the backyard when the 5-year-old bumped into the dog, then was mauled. Her mother heard screams and came outside to find the dog latched on to her daughter. “It was a horrible attack,” Todesco said Monday. “With my own hands I was pulling the dog's jaw.” Despite losing huge amounts of blood, the girl was revived at Simi Valley Hospital, then was moved to Children's Hospital where she survived until Friday afternoon. “She was an extraordinary girl,” Todesco said. “We are devastated.” Simi Valley Police said they did not announce the attack or subsequent death until getting questions from reporters Monday because they were not pursuing criminal charges and wanted to respect the family's privacy. The 35-pound male pit bull was being held in quarantine and was almost certain to be euthanized, Ventura County Animal Regulation Director Kathy Jenks said. Darn and I still can't find all those PWD and Chihuahua attacks anywhere!! They are JUST as vicious!

Tragic.
I was attacked by two wolves as a child and have scars on my face and stomach. My neighbor had wolves as pets tied up in his yard and being young and thinking they were dogs I went to play with them. Both attacked me and if it had not been for passerby I would have been killed. Keep in mind this was about 35 years ago where dangerous animals laws did not exist. |

Bo,
I already posted that thread on a forum about dogs that I read. It was locked within .5 hour by a moderator.. Too many Pit Bull owners, not enough PWD owners.. lol. No, they are not all dangerous... But they are all inherently dangerous. Most are good pets. But they still don't belong around young children and other dogs simply because of the .00001 they might attack, they are just sooo powerful that the damage they can inflict is much greater than from other types of dogs. But again, that's just my opinion. Tragedy to the family... Hopefully this is another incident where people will learn to be careful with their dogs.

Which is why I like staffordshire hounds. It is a sweetheart like a "good and normal" pitbull, but without the aggressive genealogy breed into it.

Wow. That is really sad. I'm not a big fan of pit bulls but aren't biased against them so much as I am biased against many people who choose pit bulls to be badass. While I generally agree that pit bulls have a greater propensity than most other dogs to be aggressive, I can't help but wonder how much training and socialization this particular dog had, no to mention proper breeding. I acknowledge that there are some great pit bulls out there.
I say this as a Rottweiler owner and that breed has a bad reputation too. We got a well bred dog and went to great lengths to train and make sure our pup is well socialized with people of all ages. That is important for any breed of dog. Not to take this on a tangent but we recently had our Rottweiler at a dog park and a Labradoodle attacked him without any provocation. Ban Labradoodles! I hate dog parks.

If I had a large dog it would be a Golden Lab.
I have never read about a Lab killing someone?

wow are you guys going to continue this as they pop up? As I've said in the past anything that remotely resembles an APBT (purebred) is labeled as a "pit bull" to make more headlines, look at how it's got all of you interested. If it said "mixed breed of unkown origin attacks" would you guys be interested?
You won't see the other breeds in the news because 1 - they don't make headlines & 2 they aren't status symbols for the dregs of the society. When that big dog mauling case in SF first popped up the news was reporting they were pit bulls, not until it had enough national publicity did they release that they were actually dogos. |
