I really wish the V8 X5's were available with manuals... If my trans ever goes out I will see about attempting a 6-speed swap from an 03 540 donor car... even though I have done NO research on that and it probably isn't a possibility so much as wishfull thinking.

But your X looks great, has been well maintained and cared for. The highest mileage one I worked on was a 2002 3.0i X5 with just over 225,000 miles and ran like a champ! Just goes to show how great a vehicle can be if well maintained.

Don't remember the full service history on that one, but it was likely to be the 2nd trans. But I do remember it was the original engine with no abnormal wear/blow-by, or oil consumption. The truck was in overall great condition.

Yep...I owned a 1997 540/6 which was out prior to the E39 M5. That was one heck of a sedan for the price. I fondly remember blowing away a Turbo Supra on a long stretch of freeway between Las Vegas and California. That was back in my younger days but I still remember the look on the guys face as a 4 door sedan passed his big bucks turbo at over 150 miles an hour.

I even played catchup. I needed to get my wifes permission to catch him when he jumped on the throttle on that lone stretch of freeway.

Have you ever had any tranny issues knowing its stick? I love seeing the stick in the X5s.

Thank you to all, for the views and kind words!

cmyX5go: I might still have those shorts around, but
the sneaks are 4 pairs newer generation since then; all
my sneaks look sorta the same, though. No tennis whites.

AzNMpower: Dunno about the sports seats; this car was
spec'd by the ordering dlr, (Hendrick in Hickory,NC), and
found by our selling stlr, after the fact...I had no say in what
came on it. It does have Sport, Prem,Cold,Activity and Moonroof,
per the window sticker that I still have.

Haigha: Thanks for the props...V was 7 yrs younger then, but
she still looks very fine to me. I look better now, then then...

xRide: never a problem with the 5 spd manual tranny other than
1st gear is a stump puller and the lack of an OD top gear. Synchros
are beatable when cold and linkage is occasionally notchy, hot or
cold. I had the trans fluid changed out to Redline last year at ~60K.

DocKewl is my hero when it comes to mileage, etc!

Thanks again for all the kudos and views.

Once... just ONCE, I'd love to see a pic of you NOT wearing shorts and a polo shirt.

Congrats, David. She still looks amazing. And, the X looks pretty good also.
