Portuguese Water Dog puppy:

Labradoodles can vary cause they are not really a breed. So they can either look like a Standard Poodle, a Labrador or a mixture of both.

examples:

Labradoodle breeders are not ethical. They are not good breeders, they often lie to their clients, they overcharge and are generally in the dog community thought to be the blithe of dog breeders.

They have popularized "Designer dog breeds" without any real regard for standards, health or breed futures..

So, as a dog lover, I'd hate to see an already popular "designer breed" become even more popular, at the expense of a lot of poor dogs who will ultimately be put into shelters and killed, because of unscrupulous LABRADOODLE breeders (which they all are.)

Though, I do think the Obama's will end up with a Labradoodle.

Because: They want to find a pound dog. It's not hard to find a Labradoodle in the pound. They are all over the place. Portuguese Water Dogs on the other hand, I've never heard of one in the pound.

And that's largely because of the ethics of the breeders.

1. There are more APBTs in the USA than any other dog. They should adopt one of these.
2. The shelters frequently have Fuccadoodles. Their numbers are growing, at the price of the dogs.
3. After years of shelter visits, I have never seen a PWD, or even so much as a Standard Poodle. As B states, Breeder ethics. Noone is pumping out unsold/unwanted dogs. Also, the price stays high.

I think they will avoid a Portugese Water Dog because they are from Portugal and that conotes some kind of foreign relations preference. I like them. They are a unique breed and have the benefits of the no-shedding thing which I could really appreciate. We have one in our agility class; smart, athletic, and a good size.

I have also heard that Labradoodles and Golden Doodles are all the rage and with the unethical breeding going on, I have heard about many that are nuts. Who knows what other issues they will have in the future as far as genetic defects, both physical and mental.

For the Obama's I have two words: Rott-Weiler. I don't think they could handle one and the breed would instantly become more popular and the bad breeding would commence accordingly. That will happen (or continue to happen) with whatever breed they pick.
